SIX STEPS TO TITLE GLORY

United legend Lou Macari identifies the key factors for league success...
Win your first game - I think if you were to pick the perfect first opponents you'd opt for Newcastle, they're a big disappointment every year. A big win would be nice, but getting three early points and the players gaining confidence are the main aims.
Overcome the bogey venue - I think you have to put recent results at Portsmouth into context. Last season, for example, Tevez was new to the team and Rooney was out. If you want to retain the title you have to think you can win anywhere.
Beat your rivals - If we beat Liverpool and Chelsea in September then you could really say we’re flying. That said, draws wouldn’t be bad either, given we're away.
Win your home games - United looked strong at OT last season, winning and entertaining. You're halfway there if you can make light work of the home games.
Teach the new boys a lesson - West Brom, Stoke and Hull will work hard and they could surprise a few people, but not against United.
Strong finish - If we’re top of the league then we won’t care who we play in the run in. We'll feel so close to the end we'll want to beat whoever we play.
