Some leadership thoughts

i am trying to collate what i have been learning in the past ...

here are some leadership traits ....

1. am i a taking king or a giving king? a taking king tries to take the glory and honor for himself. He thinks he is the center of the attraction... a giving king gives back to God none-the-less, he gives credit back to God... and he sees that his purpose here is to give back to God's people -> see 1 sam 8
-> for further discussion: a shepherd's heart, a teachable heart, humility, servanthood

2. going the distance for your people... am i spending QUALITY time with His people? going all the way for them? praying all the way for them? the priestly role !!! see job 1:5

3. integrity . the character of the leader!!! enough said... a leader cant take ppl to places where he has never gone before... that is the standard i set for myself...

4. an enquiring leader! one that ask God's permission first! one that enquires God about what to do, where to go... it implies knowing God intimately . see David in 2 sam 5

5. a leader is bench marked by his own preaching. he walks the talk. not talk the walk. his expectations of HIMSELF and others are based on his on example and the life he lives... see phil 1:27 vs. 1:12

6.flying with desperation vs. flying with destiny.... essentially waiting upon the lord vs doing things for God... we cannot DO without waiting and enquiring of God. that would be presumptuousness. a leader may not know HOW , but he must know WHERE he is going. the destiny determines the direction. am i on the right track?

7. waiting upon the Lord also implies trusting in God. Trusting in his timing, trusting that He will open up the opportunities.

8. Counting the cost and counting the battles... what are the things i need to sacrifice along the way? what are the things i DO have now on my hand that i can use to fight the battle... what do i need? ask God to fill the rest... looking at God; not looking at the mountain... those who look at the mountain relies on their own strength, trusting themselves more than they trust God... so learn to look to God more...

9. titles / offices are not important enough for me to hold on to them. those things can create pride sometimes. i can start to serve without an official title or office... (that does not mean titles and office do not have their place...) i do not have to wait to be a pastor in order to pastor... i can start serving and ministering to ppl, in many other creative ways. love being the center of my ministry.

10. inner life .... i cant stress this more... a leader's most powerful weapon to bring to the battle is his walk with God. my most powerful weapon would be my journals... they are what makes me... what transform me... an untransformed leader cannot lead... i dont think in all humility , i would ever find myself submitting to such leadership.... so more i would set this standard for myself... i insist all leaders should be growing christians... ;-)
